Or my Mo’venture, if you will. I’ve been an active participant of Movember ever since I’ve been able to grow an acceptable amount of facial hair (around 2010-ish). It’s one of many charities that I feel quite strongly about and make an effort every year to support this particular foundation. Here are my last two efforts:
The three biggest killers of men are testicular cancer, prostate cancer and suicide (mental health). And these are topics that men generally don’t talk about. The Movember foundation is the only charity that focuses solely on men’s health; and growing a mo is an excellent conversations starter to raise awareness about these deadly diseases.
This time around, I’ll be taking advantage of this platform to spread the word about Movember and help stop men dying too young. Today is November 1st and my normally grizzled, bearded face is as smooth as the proverbial baby’s backside. Between now and the 30th of November I’ll be (trying to) grow and groom a manly soup strainer to adorn my top lip.
I, and other Newydd Mo’members, will also be getting active to raise awareness. We’ll be drawing attention to men’s health with a Move target of 380,914 metres to hit before November 30th (that’s almost 13km per day). Each metre represents a life claimed by prostate cancer each year.
Our staff do quite a bit in the name of charity. Most recently, Newydd turned pink to support Breast Cancer Now.

We also support the Trussell Trust…
.@Rooms4UWales along with @chown_john presented a cheque for £1000 to @TrussellTrust #Vale Food Bank today in #Barry. We stayed behind to offer a little help to the hard working and selfless #volunteers. Thanks also to @rhydnetball for their contribution! https://t.co/gSby2RlZqc pic.twitter.com/f2g9oZAwDT
